EDIFICE removes biggest B2B integration barrier to entry
Investment to participate in B2B e-commerce reduced by up to 90%
EDIFICE has announced the launch of enliteB2B to deliver the potential long promised but not achieved by traditional B2B standards. The complexity and lack of flexibility in B2B integration, combined with costly proprietary solutions has deterred many companies from wider adoption across their trading communities.
EDIFICE embarked on a solution to remove this bottleneck after a study of its members revealed that complexity and cost in Order to Cash were preventing the wider adoption of B2B integration across all parts of companies. Traditional B2B standards have complex data models, and EDIFICE research has uncovered a direct correlation between the complexity of these data models, the implementation challenges and reduced deployment.
Boudewijn Janssen of Amkor Technology is the EDIFICE Chair “Early research by EDIFICE has shown that with enliteB2B the investment required to participate in an integrated B2B program will be reduced by 90% compared to the investment needed to work with existing B2B standards, and by 50% when compared to other proprietary standards.“
enliteB2B was developed in the high tech industry, by the high tech industry, but for use by all industries. Companies that participated in this initiative include Nokia Siemens Networks, Freescale, GXS, Siltronic and Avnet. All message formats have been developed with the following core principles:
• Messages must be human readable
• Any language can be used to define and use the messages
• Any spread sheet program must be able to open the message
At the conference, EDIFICE announced the availability of B2B message formats for purchase orders, advance ship notices and invoices to members. These are the most commonly used messages with the most complex data models.
Jan Fuchs is the enliteB2B architect and commented “enliteB2B uses the model and terminology of relational databases with a simple sequential structure rather than the typical hierarchical structures used in traditional B2B standards. It also enables a company to start using messages in a manual mode and gradually evolve to an automated mode, unlike other B2B standards”.
